Ms.AH think every chinese breed in Jakarta must be all very familiar with this legendary old restaurant or at least have knowledge about this place. Mr.HATT has been eating their food all his life and grown very fond of this place. Angke is those typical chinese restaurant where you will find three or more generations of a family dine-in together. So it is a bit odd when Ms.AH and Mr.HATT-*ehm...ehm...a very young couple* often spend our date night there :) And this is our most recent trip to Angke.
First dish that we picked : 'Gurame Tahu Tausi', as always...a very comforting food, with generous portion, a lot of home made tofu, and a nice fried fish, sprinkled with some salty black beans, drizzled with delicious sauce. The 'Gurame' is one of Angke's specialty, a must order menu from their list.
The second dish would be 'Lindung Cah Fumak', it's everybody's favorite I tell you. Ms.AH find out that in some other places, the fried eel is battered with flour which is not Ms.AH's likey. But in Angke, they just deep fried the fresh eel as it is, no flour, no coating, nothing, and that's more like it. Angke also put a generous amount of 'angkak' (red fermented rice) in the sauce, it give the dish more likes :D
The last but not least dish : 'Ayam Garam', it was as salty as its name but in a good way. A very simple food yet a very fulfilling one because it was a whole chicken that we were talking about. The chicken meat was quite tender and chewable but Ms.AH like the two recent dishes more.
And for some last words, all Ms.AH saying is everything come with the price :D For those three dishes, two ice teas, and a bowl of rice *but Angke cheated, they charged us two bowl of rice just because Mr.HATT gave a little rice to Ms.AH's empty bowl, so unfair and the waiter told us with some attitude too ughhh...* Mr.HATT had to loose IDR.350,000,- something, really not cheap huh. But Ms.AH know that we always will come back again and again merely because eating here is a habit, more like regular ritual.
